Countless books have been written over the past 30 years expounding upon the cosmos from a scientific perspective along with its implications on theology. Nearly all have one thing in common. Their premises are fueled by popular theories of science which race on at an ever increasing pace. Both the scientist as well as the theologian have come into great peril of being overcome by their own speculations. The mysteries of the cosmos, both scientific and theological, are contemplated in this small volume. The intent is not to solve the mysteries, but rather to differentially reveal them. By exposing what the realm of scholarship does not actually know, a greater understanding may be achieved. We live in a time in which the scientist with false confidence is often tempted to reach beyond the boundary of science, defying the limits of the past or ignoring the larger spiritual realm. And the theologian finds it hard to resist trying to read the mind of God, as if to apprehend unshared secrets. The resulting presumptions have become popular theories and faithful beliefs in the science of the natural world since the early 20th century. Not surprisingly, among the most captivating are ones related to the origin of the universe and life on the earth, which are explored here from a historical perspective. Woven together are God's mysteries, as they are intriguingly revealed in the Bible while intertwined with contemporary scientific discoveries. Both the Biblical theologian and the contemporary scientist would do well to pause and consider thoughtfully what we do not know. For that which then remains is indeed ... the world we know.
