Many county sheriffs serve all of their lives and never have to investigate a murder, but not Billy Harshburger. He finds that he has to investigate the murder of a former deputy, Bob Stewart, now turned bartender and informant, and he has to do it his first term in office. Sheriff Billy Harshburger quickly tracks down an eyewitness to the murder. She not only saw Bob Stewart killed, but she knows the killer, Jay Talbot.
