Theopolitan Liturgy

The Theopolis Institute is a community of pastors, theologians, and students devoted to articulating and disseminating a vision of the church’s mission to contemporary culture, a vision that centers on biblical theology and liturgical practice. The church carries on her worldtransforming mission by being the church. When the church inhabits the symbolic world of the Bible through the liturgy, and communes together at the Lord’s table, she becomes a source of light and life to the world. Theopolis teaches, develops tools, and fosters networks to assist church leaders throughout the world to form thoroughly biblical, liturgical, and catholic churches. The Theopolis Institute is not a church, but is like scaff olding to assist the church in rebuilding God’s heavenly city so that it can eff ectively carry out her mission of transforming the cities of man.

The Theopolis Institute was established in 2013, but its leaders have been working together to formulate and teach a Theopolitan vision of Bible, liturgy, church, and culture for several decades through James B. Jordan’s Biblical Horizons.

The Theopolis Fundamentals Series introduces the Biblical Horizons / Theopolis outlook and agenda to a new generation. The early volumes of the series summarize our convictions about biblical interpretation, liturgical theology and practice, and the church’s cultural and political mission. The Fundamentals will be followed by a collection of Theopolis Explorations volumes that will examine Scripture, liturgy, and culture in more depth and detail.

The introduction to the Theopolis Fundamentals Series was Peter J. Leithart's book, Theopolitan Vision. Leithart's Theopolitan Liturgy is the first book in the series.
