Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes is the emotional journey of a boy who survived horrifying abuse in his childhood and his long road to recovery and defining himself separately from his circumstances.

He recounts the terrible physical, mental, and emotional trauma he suffered at the hands of those he trusted and the long-lasting damage inflicted by the unwillingness or inability of his mother to stop the abuse from happening. He details the excruciating process of learning to trust and love after years of abuse and how he was able to overcome his experiences for the sake of his mental health.

Many who live with abuse feel helpless, destined to lead a life of pain with no glimpse of a future to strive for or hold on to. Depression is much more complex than just sadness; it eats away at the very soul. Hayes illustrates the many, many ways in which depression manifests after abuse, but he also shows those who are victimized that there is a way to get through it and past it and emerge victorious as healthy, happy individuals with a hope for tomorrow.
