Tobago Bumboats: The Glory Days

This is the story of a community blessed with talented, world class seamen and boat builders, having learned their trade, handed down from one generation to the next. With the advent of the outboard motor, which is mainly used today by fishermen on another type of vessel called pirogues, which has become the preference for fishing, you will find that today no one uses bumboats to fish anymore. However, these boats remain and are cherished as traditional sailboats, for the purpose of competing in traditional sailing regattas both at home and abroad, throughout the wider Caribbean.
