The author describes his bold yet initially tremulous venture into a subculture where illicit sex becomes the impetus in his quest for true love to salve a dreary, frustrating existence, full of disappointments, unfulfilled potential, and shattered dreams. He retreats to a fantasy world where he finds conditional love and danger. In the telling, he gives a name and a face to members of a realm of society most people see as nameless and faceless.
