Transfusion

Burn surgery requires an infrastructure to ensure safe and accurate debridement of the necrotic burnt tissue. Blood products are a vital piece of the jigsaw, to ensure maintenance of a circulating volume and facilitate homeostasis. Is there such thing as a "routine" transfusion? The transfusion needs to be a "tailored" transfusion to meet the specific needs of the individual. One problem is maintenance of the circulation during surgery. This book reviews research in the aspect of transfusion and emphasises the unique set of problems each major burn poses.
