Transition radiation is emitted when a charge (or any other source that does not possess an inherent frequency) moves along a straight line at a uniform velocity in an inhomogeneous medium or near such a medium. The Russian edition of this book aimed at dealing with the basic concepts of the theory and analyzing the individual problems of transition radiation and relevant phenomena. However the English version of the book also discusses the problems of transition emission from different sources and the general relations between processes of transition radiation, transition scattering and transition bremsstrahlung. In addition the work addresses the Vavilov-Cherenkov emission effect which is the term used in Russian literature for the effect of emission of a charge or other source without inherent frequency, moving with a constant velocity in a medium. The English edition includes 306 references and is intended to provide researchers with information in this field which is relatively little known outside the Soviet Union.
