This book presents groundbreaking scholarship on new approaches to womens psychology. Transnational psychology pushes beyond traditional Western, androcentric frameworks to provide theorists, researchers, and practitioners with tools to identify and deconstruct hegemonies, give voice to the marginalized, and critically examine the dynamic nature of identity in local and global contexts. Contributors to this book represent a diverse array of viewpoints originating in postcolonial, postmodern, Third World and Women of Color feminist scholarship, intersectionality and critical race theory, as well as scholarship addressing the impact of globalization. Chapters explain how transnational perspectives can address a range of topics including human trafficking, sexuality, migration, human rights, healing, empowerment, domestic violence, education, and work. The book concludes with chapters on teaching these approaches, and a roadmap for the future of this growing field of study.
