In 1970 a young couple, somewhat naively, embarked on a backpacking journey lasting nearly three years traveling to 25 countries and a dozen islands. Learning of many cultures, and connecting with hundreds of people, they discovered that all humans are unified in expressing love and showing a curiosity for origins and destiny.
Searching for the good life, they adapted to the ever-changing environments. This helped in developing a new-found meaning, offering a broadened willingness to understand and cooperate with others unlike themselves; in places like Afghanistan, India, and Nepal. Their growing love was solidified by helping each other, every step of the way. They gained confidence in this ability to adjust, especially when sailing from Bali across the Indian Ocean to the Seychelles Islands. Each experienced a greater capacity for mastering fear, aiding in their decision to become parents, and contributing members of society.
Traveling allowed them to realize and feel the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual circuits, (connections) existing in and around the world. This resulted in their questioning, after leaving Costa Rica, how traveling may serve a higher purpose.
Their hope was for this book to inspire others to travel and become united as citizens of a growing peaceful world. If you have a true desire to travel, they said, the finances will follow!
One of the good things that came out of their isolation of the pandemic was the time to write these memoirs.
