Treasury!

Treasury! is both a feast for the eyes and an enthralling quest for the meaning of art at various times and in a wide range of cultures. Masterpieces by Western artists like Velazquez, Tintoretto, Rembrandt, Matisse and Fabre are compared with top works from many different periods, places and cultures. What, for example, links a sixteenth-century triptych by Maarten van Heemskerck with an image of the Buddha made in twelfth-century China?
