How did the dinner guests not know a robbery and murder was happening upstairs?

Liam Mason has returned to Magpie. He wants nothing more than to spend some time getting to know Georgina Scott. When his distraught mom calls with news that a robbery and murder happened while she and the other guests were downstairs, he knows he has to help.

Georgina is ecstatic that Liam wants to spend time with her. He asks her to travel with him to Banff, Alberta, to meet his family. But her patience is tested by his snobby parents, his slutty ex-girlfriend, his father's cunning boss, and a mysterious reporter who knows more about the murder than he's saying.
