Shaymin Cumbersome has experienced many disappointments in her life. She was conceived through rape. Her mother, who was addicted to drugs, abandoned her at the age of three. After her mother left her, Shaymin was reared in an orphanage and many foster homes. Finally, when Shaymin was eleven years old, the Cumbersomes adopted her... Shaymin, now thirty-two years old, reflects back on her life. For years, she looked for love and completion through material things, money, sex, and alcohol. She thought she had left that entire life behind her once her business became successful and she finally found true love with Carlos. After they get engaged, however, doubts creep in for Shaymin, who finds out that her girlfriends Roche' and Ashley have trouble brewing below the surface of their seemingly perfect marriages. Is Shaymin destined for the same fate with Carlos? Will she ever find fulfillment in an unfulfilled world?
