Like its companions in the series, this book begins with the constitutional structure, framework and outline of the social, economic and geographical context in which the markets operate. The main sections of the book contain detailed accounts of the legal structures of property, planning and tax, the registration procedures and transaction charges, market processes and how they all work in practice, who does what, and what professional titles or other actors in the process to look out for. Both the land and property sections are illustrated in detail by case studies of actual projects from the different sectors (housing, commercial and industrial) and from more and less prosperous parts of the country. The new Federal States (formerly the German Democratic Republic) receive special attention in terms of the development of a land and property market - one of the most intractable problems faced by all the post-communist regimes of eastern Europe. Based on a major report commissioned by the German government as part of a five-country study, and fully updated since completion of the research work, should be useful reading for anyone professionally concerned with urban land and property markets throughout Europe. It should be especially useful to professionals and researchers in planning, land development, property investment, estate management, land economy and urban/economic geography.
