Violent Racism

This book, now published in paperback, has a Preface that covers the Stephen Lawrence racist murder Inquiry. In the rest of the book Ben Bowling gives a detailed analysis of official documents, and of the historical origins of racist violence. He then uses the conclusions of his analyses, alongside an in-depth case study of racial attacks and police response in East London, to analyse why the ideas and language of white supremacy and racial exclusion direct violence at 'non-white' individuals, and why the police response is so routinely ineffectual. The book reveals insights into racist Britain that will be of interest to both academics in this area and those professions who have to deal with both the acts and the consequences of racism.
