Vita Sancti Petri Martiris

The official vita of Peter of Verona by Friar Thomas Agni of Lentini from the mid-1260s is here presented with a critical edition and translation for the first time; all extant witnesses to the text have been consulted. After his assassination in 1252, Peter of Verona was rapidly proclaimed a martyr, and his Vita testifies to the far-reaching extension of his cult, spreading out from Italy and Southern France to reach western Iberia and Ireland, as is attested by the miracles attributed to his intercession.
