As book two in The Silverado Journals, Voyage of the Silverado chronicles the continuing adventures of Matt, his best friend Chuy and the gnome prince, G, as they sail to Kauai in search of Dagywn, the gnome wizard. Once in Kauai, the group makes friends with a local teenager, Mad, who knows as much about Kauai as anyone. With her help – not to mention her father's car – they go on a blind search for Dagywn who has been missing from the tribe ever since jumping ship in Kauai over 100 years ago, when he was part of an expeditionary group searching for a new home for the gnomes. During the long voyage, Dagywn and four other gnomes, had been plagued with seasickness to such a degree that they jumped ship while docked in Kauai in February of 1867. The rest of the tribe continued on to California, ultimately calling Mt. St. Helena in the Napa Valley their home. After becoming friends with Matt the previous summer (after returning Matt's uncle's miniature pony which the gnomes had stolen), King Gob commissioned Matt to find Dagywn and bring him back to the tribe on Mt. St. Helena. Voyage of the Silverado is an historically and geographically accurate adventure set in the Napa Valley, San Francisco, and Kauai. In an effort to find the gnome wizard, the group of young adventurers stir up all kinds of trouble, including incurring the wrath of the not-so-legendary Madam Pele.
