Walking Backwards

Snapshots in time...memories long forgotten. Some nostalgic, some painful. 

When her adult children declare Irene no longer able to live in the family home,  they move her into Hawthorne Heights Assisted Living. She feels alone and useless in her new apartment and fills her days sorting through a box of old photographs. The past is more real to her than the incessant rounds of Bingo and movie nights offered at the facility. 

As she looks at the photos, she remembers summers on a Wyoming dude ranch that changed her life when she was in her fifties...vibrant, independent Louise... a special cowboy... horses and campfires. Deeper in the box, she finds photos of Julia with her little girls, helping Irene and family adjust to small town Wisconsin in the 1950's. Their children play together, while the two women share their deepest thoughts. 

As Irene relives her past, we learn about a life her children never dreamed she lived... and the tragedies that tore apart both friendships.
