We Call It a Cross

A young woman leaves Ireland, her family, and everything she knows with nothing but a tattered trunk, a toothache, and a promise of employment with Quakers in America. But her fiancé, who is supposed to meet her at the boat, is nowhere to be found. She scours the crowd on shore for sight of him or his family to no avail. Is it possible she gave him the wrong day or time? Is he injured or sick? Has she misinterpreted his feelings, or has he changed his mind and given up on her and their plans?
