Poetry anthology. of pieces written from the age of 12-17, now at the age of 21, Nasim Asgari is a thinker and dreamer, born in Tehran and based in Toronto. A seeker and student of the truth who passionately writes teaches and performs poetry. Nasim began writing at 9 when she decided to use her voice and written words to express herself and bring awareness to issues often undermined by today's world. Nasim has shared her poems and art at events, poetry slams, workshops and protests globally. 'what was swept under the persian rug' is a collection of pieces surrounding the topics of identity, the politics of individuals and the world, mental wellness, family history and trauma, the upbringings of a young immigrant iranian girl growing up in places she is not accepted and away from family. The book tells inquisitive stories and healing simultaneously- carrying a sense of comfort and acceptance even within the rebellion. The book has a life of its own, as the chapters are named after the rug process- the illustrations are the strings from the rug that carries through. it dissects backwards the complex subjects and ideas that are swept away and expected never to be revealed. this is them, in revelation.
