It is the summer of 2005 and Phil Dempsey, a 50 year-old NGO worker, faces a mid-life crisis.



Estranged from his family and disillusioned with life in modern Britain, he is on the brink of abandoning his job and his London home in favour of a life of nomadic obscurity, travelling in Asia.



But one person - his niece, Emily - pursues him across the globe. She has her own secrets to divulge; a story of deceit and abuse that unfolds as they journey through the Far East to the island of Borneo; a story which threatens to overturn everything Phil has planned...
