When We Were Young is an intimate yet empowering story that details some of the struggles of black women. Despite growing up in one of the roughest projects in America, the author was able to survive and thrive to secure a good life for herself. The lessons she learned from the women in her life played a major role in what she's accomplished. The life she secured for herself, which was filled with love and happiness. Savannah Kennedy is fully aware of the major role women play in family dynamics and hopes these golden nuggets can be beneficial to women respectively all over the world.  When we were young is a story about survival, perseverance, and triumph against all odds. By sharing these experiences, she hopes to help other women navigate around some of life's pitfalls that plague women.

It's a funny and interesting reflection of growing up in Brooklyn told by a woman who has grown up and spent her youth in the infamous Marcy Projects where Jay-Z grew up. These reflections of the knowledge and inspiring life lessons can serve as beacons of hope for struggling women who may be navigating a similar situation today.

The author Savannah Kennedy was born in South Carolina and moved to Brooklyn as a young child. Her strong goals and the need to help others always guided her decisions as she embarked upon careers in the teaching, medical, and insurance industries. She is an active member of her church and currently resides in South Carolina with her husband, their dog, and a cat.
