White Rain

Hurricane Rita is headed for the Gulf Coast. Cajun conjuring man Popo Cole Boudreaux startles at the sound of his deceased daughter's voice piercing the pre-storm stillness and resounding through his shack in the middle of the sugar cane field where he lives. "Popo, take me home."
Belle Boudreaux, Popo's estranged wife, pours coffee for guests at the Azalea Funeral Home, hosting two funerals-one with pious rosaries, the other with music and dancing. She, too, hears the call of Celestine's restless soul, as do two of her grandchildren. The funeral director, guests, staff, and death rituals of the Bayou will draw you into the magical chaos as the foreboding vortex of Rita bears down on Southern Louisiana.
