Yaa's Children

Yaa awoke on her fourteenth birthday to a day filled with joy and promise. She was surrounded by family, the close knit people of her village, and the man she was to marry. When she left with her mother and sister to fetch water, she never imagined that she would never see any of them again. But slave catchers appeared at the water and her life was suddenly and violently changed. She and her sister were taken and when she last saw her, it was to watch as she was driven away by the man who bought her. They never saw each other again. This is the story of Yaa's journey of loss and separations, and the stories of those whose existence sprung from her. They are stories of trials and endurance.
