A love story woven into the events of WW11. The Great Depression had sucked the life blood from rural Alabama far Yellowhammerming communities. The frugal Crowder family was struggling to feed five children. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, men left their plows in the fields and rushed to join the Armed Forces. Landon Pete Crowder, offered a complete stranger $10.00 to sign his fathers name on the Navel enlistment papers. He was handsome and robust, but he had just turned sixteen years of age. He leads us through war in the Pacific Ocean. He encounters injuries and falls in love with the dark haired girl. The loss of special buddies, tested his will but he stood onboard the U.S.S. Missouri, to watch the signing of the Japanese surrender on 2 Sept. 1945. After the war, Pete returns to his Alabama roots, a mature, adult man. He visits his beloved Mothers grave and tries to find a place where he can fit into society. Pete was easily persuaded to resume the century old Moonshine/Revenuers game. On a chance visit to Birmingham, he discovers the love of his dreams. The author is a native Texan. Her love of naval history, led to this intriguing love story woven into events of WW11. The reader will experience life onboard a fighting ship during life and death battles. We all owe our cherished freedom to lives sacrificed in the wars of history and a special tribute to the families who sent their precious best that we might be free.
