In order to genuinely move beyond ego, beyond the false self-oreven more precisely, beyond exclusive identification with ego-youneed authentic and sustained contact with the transcendent, with theintention of facilitating your own evolution. You also need rigorousand unflinching self-inquiry, which includes some process of sustainedshadow work. Prayer, chanting, contemplative study, and meditation arepart of the path. In my early years, as for many young teachers, they weremy entire path. But beware of parts pretending to be wholes. These pathsmay not be enough for you. They were not enough for me.
