Jimmy Favreaux has a healthy respect for Zambonis. Not once, but twice, an ice-resurfacing machine tried to run Jimmy over. After the second mishap, he left northern Minnesota's bitter winters behind, moved to Florida, and became a private investigator. Now he's a finder of people, places, and things.

Jimmy thought he'd left his past behind him, but like an out-of-control Zamboni, it has him in its sights. A decade after moving to Florida, people from his past have landed on his doorstep, looking for his help. Doug's wife, Ruth, has been kidnapped from the Jacksonville airport, and it appears that Jack Powers - the man responsible for Jimmy's move south - is behind it.

After finding Jack Powers dead in a hotel, it's Jimmy's job to find out if his former adversary's death is natural, self-inflicted, or assisted, and - if there was help - from whom?
