Zimbabwe

This profile focuses on the continuities and dicontinuities in the historical patterns of political economy in Zimbabwe. It considers the politics of anti-colonial struggle and of post-independence state-building, the economic policies designed to balance the needs of agriculturalists, mining interests and industrialists, and the social pressures to define the nature of authentic culture. The book presents a portrait of a country that potentially may be the pride of Africa, but also may be only another example of a country whose socialist vision has not come to fruition.
