The focus of this monograph lies on the connections between globalization and literature, in particular modern French novels, in the light of globalization theories put forth by social and cultural studies. The author develops a model for interpreting both French and francophone novels with respect to their interrelations to globalization processes. It thereby becomes clear how literary texts reflect globalization, how literature itself participates in globalization processes, particularly cultural processes, and above all what function literary texts may assume in our age of globalization. Especially the analysis of French authors shows how important literature is to preserving cultural artifacts in a globalized world: it creates explicit literary memories of earlier elements of a national identity that threatens to be lost in ever-faster modernization of society. This text is in German.
