Metabolism refers to all the biochemical transformations that ensure the exchange of substances and energy between body cells and the surrounding environment. The equivalent of genomics for DNA, metabolomics identifies the metabolic profile of toxicity, thus contributing to the detection of medicines with unwanted effects. The biomarkers identified in preclinical stages are non-invasive and can be used in clinical stages in order to better monitor the onset, progression and cure of some diseases.
