Creation Stories of the Middle East

This text is a study of the myths about the beginning of the cosmos, earth, and humankind in Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Anatolia, Syria-Palestine and Persia, putting the tales in their historical and regional context. It provides the reader with general information concerning the emergence and development of each and every culture whose stories are presented and discussed. Themes such as preexistence, creation of the universe, time frame, emergence of humankind, gender roles and incest, paradise and destruction are analysed.
