Gender Representation in the Moroccan 9th Grade EFL Textbooks

The main aim of the current study is to investigate gender representation in the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks officially approved and used in public junior high schools from a sociolinguistic perspective. To attain this aim, the present study draws on Porecca's 1984 criteria. Mixed-methods research that combines both quantitative and qualitative data analysis is adopted . The findings reveal that the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks used in the public junior high schools are gender-biased; Male dominance is extremely apparent in both linguistic and social perspectives. This work is concluded with some limitations of the study as well as a number of suggestions for future research vis-à-vis the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks.
