The Man With The Knife is back.
In the sixth of a series of eight novels set in the west in the period just after the Civil War, our hero, a professional killer, con man and pimp and a man whose name changes in every book, for obvious reasons, is on his way to San Francisco, hoping for the good life there and an easy and uneventful trip. Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for us, this is not to be. Gunmen and killers from his past, beautiful and manipulative women and one of the roughest and most deadly mountain men in history cross his path either to help or try to kill him, and that includes the women, and he has only his wits and a fourteen inch double-edged blade to help him. Not much, you'll agree, although he does appear to have a certain amount of skill with the latter. Still and all, everyone else is carrying a gun and some are damn good with them.
What chance has he got?
Well, he's managed to survive through five books already. So don't bet against him. But if you're interested in experiencing the adventures of a slightly-out-of-the-ordinary hero of the Old West, one who hates horses and has to cling to their necks when riding, one who wears suits and shoes instead of chaps and boots, one who likes to sleep late, eat well and live the good life, and one who has to do a hell of a lot of killing, then pick up this unusual Western and give it, and him, a try.
Or start with the first one:
LET ME TELL YOU, PIMPING IN THE OLD WEST WAS A DANGEROUS BUSINESS, EVEN FOR A HIRED KILLER
AND THEN CONTINUE ON WITH THE NEXT FOUR:
"I'M THE MAN YOU THOUGHT YOU KILLED," CONCERNING MY EFFORTS TO FREE TWO SLAVES SEVEN YEARS AFTER THE WAR
"TRUST ME," MY ADVENTURES IN NEW YORK CITY POLITICS
"GOOD SHOT," REGARDING THE DIFFICULTIES OF TRAVELING WEST DURING UNCERTAIN TIMES
COMING THROUGH, HOW A CROOKED ROULETTE WHEEL CAN, IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL, LEAD YOU INTO AN INDIAN WAR
And then, of course, read this one. I guarantee you, you'll enjoy them all.
