Learn to Read Chinese, Book 1

Here are four wonderful Chinese folk tales, all based on stories originally collected by Normal Hinsdale Pitman in A Chinese Wonder Book published in 1918. We've updated the stories and retold them using very simple language (just 540 words!) that can be read and understood by beginning students of Chinese.

Not only are these great stories, but they are easy to read. Opposite each page of Chinese is a page of pinyin (phonetic spelling), so if you don't recognize a word, you can check the pinyin to see how it's pronounced. In the back of the book is a glossary of all words used, plus an English translation.
