Detective Sergeant Sam Mackenzie's life is thrown into chaos with the murder of his wife, fellow police officer Chloe, and their unborn son. Sam is not coping with his grief; however, he finds a special way of communicating his feelings. He also seeks support in Mt. Isa, his hometown.

With his best friend Billy Williams (aka "Blue") Sam travels to the Gulf where they encounter local drama with family members. Interesting facts unfold that take them to Karumba, where they become involved along with local police in helping to solve crime in the area.

Clues present themselves regarding Chloe's killer, as he's believed to be seeking refuge with family contacts in a remote area. Sam and Blue become prospectors in nearby Gemfields to gather intel to assist in their search.

During their travels, Sam encounters a woman suffering similar grief and emotions as himself. Sam and Blue's search for justice for Chloe reaches a climax from an unexpected event that threatens lives, requiring bravery going above and beyond.
