He persuades an old, New York City police detective, Frank Breen, to help him track down the killer. The pursuit takes them to a number of New York's most interesting places, to confront some of the City's most fascinating citizens. The New York City Police Department, the FBI, the Secret Service, and the U.S. Customs service, all become involved in the bringing the murderer to justice.
