the main aim of the work is to present and to compare methodologies of interest to wave propagation which are used in different areas of current research in order to establish possible links among them to give a fruitful contribution to the study of dissipative waves. The topics considered in this book are: mathematical procedures for studying the wave amplitude evolution and the shock wave behaviour either in uniform or in nonuniform statues; mathematical models arising from dissipative theories with special attention paid to irreversible thermodynamics and active media; numerical methods for hyperbolic models; experimental studies for waves in dissipative media. Attention is paid to the presentation of analytical procedures for the treatment of the wave amplitude evolution equations arising from different physical contexts such as heat conduction with finite wave speed, nervous pulse transmission, particle transport theory, fluid-filled tubes, viscoelasticity, magnetohydrodynamics.
