Psychodynamics

The book evaluates the long term results of short-term dynamic psychotherapy. A series of 24 case studies were conducted by trainees employing psychodynamic techniques under the auspices of Dr. David Malan with Ferruccio Osimo. The book is divided into five parts: part one introduced the study and trainees who treated the patients, the principles of their technique, and the criteria used in the evaluation. Part two comprises the clinical reports, and, unusually for literature in this field, part three reviews the types of change found at follow up. Part four assesses therapeutic effects and reassesses selection criteria. Part five outlines a brief appraisal of this study and its implications for the practice of short psychotherapy. Ths book is a contribution to psychotherapy research. It is aimed at trainee and established psychotherapists, psychiatrists, libraries and institutions. Dr. David Malan is the author of "Individual Psychotherapy and the Science of Psychodynamics".
