Seeking the One

Adelphe, known to some as 'Fire and Ice,' is olive-skinned and dark-haired; an unmarried young woman of seventeen. Ethnically Greek, her dark eyes glow with intense curiosity and intuitive natural wisdom, or 'common sense.' She's an independent thinker and does not suffer fools gladly. She has no patience for any answer to any question that relies on 'just because' and 'everybody knows.'

And many new questions surround her. These fly on the wings of rumors as numerous as Galilean seabirds, constantly swirling through her village on the western edge of the Sea of Galilee. The questions concern a strange, new itinerant rabbi that wanders Galilee speaking with authority and seemingly healing the sick and infirm.

Is he the Promised One, the Messiah, the one finally to free Israel's neck from the Roman yoke that the Emperor Tiberius keeps firmly in place? Is he the One, or just another pretender preying upon gullible Jewish minds, as many have before?

Adelphe is determined to find the answer. So, she joins the growing crowds following this Jesus of Nazareth to learn the answer. But, along the way, and without searching, she finds someone else, Ahi, her soulmate for life.
