Johnny Coldiron's first day as zoning officer in the tiny township of Bart in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania was the exact same day and place of the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting in 2006. Some said he was put there on that day for a reason-but why? For nearly nine years he happily zoomed through Bart, collecting quirky stories about the unusual community members while helping out however he could. He issued building permits, solved problems, and offered advice to the predominantly Old Order Amish, earning their respect and the title, "The Roving Bishop." Then all at once everything went wrong. When a supervisor disagreed with a crucial zoning decision he made, Johnny expected to have to fight for his job. But never did he expect to have to fight for his life.
