Dan Ryan, a New York Private Detective, was known for finding people other detectives couldn't. and J. Raymond Mereweather wanted him to find his daughter, Delilah.
Delilah Mereweather, a beautiful, talented, and successful woman, worked as a company representative at the Orange County Convention Center in California. At five in the afternoon, she headed to the parking facility, a ten-minute walk, and vanished. Her black BMW remained in space 37 of the parking building. The locked car was just as she had left it, and the keys were found on the pavement near the front tire. Private Detective Dan Ryan stood in parking space 37 and concluded that Delilah had been abducted before getting into her car. He had little hope of her being alive, but his job was to find her.
From the start, he didn't trust his clients, Delilah's estranged parents. But with nothing on his schedule and after hearing Delilah's history, he decided to take the case. He felt that if Delilah had been murdered, she deserved to be respectfully buried, or if kidnapped into enslavement, she should be found and allowed to live her life in peace.
Sally Reed, Ryan's longtime lover, decided to piggyback on his trip to California because she wanted to visit Disneyland. In his mind, he worked alone and didn't need help. She insisted, and together, they worked in his methodical and determined way, chasing every clue to where it led. After uncovering the horrifying truth, things got nasty, and Ryan learned that Sally was a tough and clever partner.
