William of Malmesbury: Gesta Pontificum Anglorum, The History of the English Bishops

Gesta Pontificum Anglorum (The History of the English Bishops) is an important work by one of England's greatest historians, William, monk of Malmesbury (d. c. 1143). It traces the history of the English Church - its bishops, archbishops and monasteries - from the coming of Christianity c. 600, to William's era. This volume provides an introduction and detailed commentary on the text and translation in Volume I.
