The story of paper is all about paper, explaining where it comes from and how it is made.
The book takes the reader on a journey with this everyday item. It describes how useful paper is and where it comes from. Then details are given on natural forests and commercial plantations, and where these are in South Africa. It goes on to describe the differences between hard and soft wood, and the inside of a tree trunk. Then the book explains how trees are planted and harvested, how the bark is removed, how the pulp is made and bleached, and the final stages of the paper-making process.
A word help section at the end gives simple explanations for more complex words in the book, such as indigenous and industry, to expand the reader's vocabulary.
Each chapter has pictures with captions, such as forests in South Africa, a map of the main forests in the country and the manufacturing process.
The Made in SA series is a set of seven books about things that are proudly made in South Africa.
