Ruby Right is a beautifully illustrated story book with a very important life lesson: it is about being polite and shows that listening to the opinions of others is more important than always being right. The story features rhinos and is set in the African bush.
Ruby is a rhino who thinks she is right about everything. She never admits when she is wrong and will not listen to what the other rhinos have to say. If they do not agree with her about something, Ruby marches off in an angry mood.
The other rhinos stop arguing with Ruby because they know there is no point. At first Ruby is happy – she thinks they finally realize how clever she is and that she is always right. She even enjoys it when they call her 'Ruby Right'.
As time goes on the other rhinos continue to agree with everything Ruby says. They do not discuss things with her or argue. In fact, they mostly stay away from her. Ruby starts getting lonely by herself with no one to talk to.
One day she listens to the other rhinos talking. Each one gets a turn to speak and they listen to each other's opinions. They are having a nice conversation. Ruby finally understands that it is silly to disagree if there is not a good and sensible reason. And that it is important to disagree about something in a polite way.
She apologizes to the other rhinos for her behavior and asks them to forgive her. They do, and Ruby never pretends to know everything about everything again.
